This training course is sponsored by Headquarters Installation Management Command (IMCOM) under the IMCOM Academy, School of Public Works. The Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) will be conducting a ten-day bridge safety training course for personnel involved in bridge safety and operations and maintenance. The training will provide information necessary for garrisons to develop and implement a comprehensive Bridge Safety Program. Topics to be covered include:
-Bridge Inspection Program. -Review of Basic Concepts, Safety & Inspection Documentation.
-Inspection and Evaluation of: Decks, Superstructures, Fracture Critical Bridge Members, Bridge Bearings, Substructures, Waterways, Underwater Inspection, Culverts, and the Structural Inventory and Appraisal (SI&A) data. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: -Discuss the duties and responsibilities of a bridge inspector and the installation bridge safety officer. -Describe, identify, evaluate, and document the various components and deficiencies that can exist on bridge components and elements. -List design characteristics and describe inspection methods and locations for common concrete, steel, and timber structures. -Identify and evaluate the various culvert and waterway deficiencies. -Discuss the need to inspect underwater portions of bridges. Describe nondestructive evaluation methods for basic bridge materials. -Demonstrate how to field inspect and evaluate common concrete, steel, and timber bridges. -Satisfy the requirements for training described in the NBIS for individuals in charge of the organizational unit that has been delegated bridge inspection responsibilities and for individuals in charge of a bridge inspection team. -Successfully complete a written examination on the material presented with a passing score or 70% or better. In addition to lectures, the class will consist of an on-site hands-on inspection of a near-by bridge and practical exercises.

Who Can Attend?

Once the online registration closes, students will be receiving an acceptance letter/email confirming their registration. Included in this email will be additional guidance for attending the course (ex. travel information). IMCOM will fund travel expenses of IMCOM employees. Travel cost for non-IMCOM employees is the responsibility of their organization.
